Learning, for ages, has taken various forms, but perhaps none so potent and transformative as the method found in the heart of a groundbreaking study by the renowned educational psychologist, Benjamin Bloom. His research, commonly referred to as the “two sigma problem,” revealed that students who learned via 1–1 tutoring achieved a performance level that was a staggering 98% better than their peers in a traditional classroom setting. A testament to the inherent power of personalized learning.

Yet, who is this ideal tutor we speak of, the harbinger of transformative learning? They are the individuals far enough into their career to command respect, yet not so distant that they fail to acknowledge the benefits of mentoring the eager mind. It is this blend of experience, expertise, and empathy that nurtures a profound learning environment, fostering not just knowledge but also wisdom.

When we pay for a class, we are accorded the liberty to be our authentic selves. The onus is on the teacher to create a curriculum that guides us from the abyss of ignorance to the apex of knowledge. As students, we are passive recipients of this transfer of knowledge, comfortable in our expectations, and reliant on the teacher’s expertise.
